The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at The Ohio State University is an exciting place to be. This is an opportunity to strategically impact the future of Ohio State through the recruitment, admission and support of outstanding students. The Outreach and Recruitment team is responsible for recruiting prospective students to The Ohio State University Columbus campus. The assistant director position is an important position on the Outreach and Recruitment team as the individual will provide leadership and support focusing on access, diversity, and inclusion initiatives on behalf of Undergraduate Admissions.
The assistant director reports to the associate director of access, diversity, and inclusion initiatives within Outreach and Recruitment. The individual will be located in the Student Academic Services Building and will work most closely with a team of five full-time staff members, 35 – 50 student employee diversity ambassadors, and alongside a broader team of approximately 25. Peak seasons are typically August through November, February through April, and the end of June given the cyclical nature of the admissions cycle and special access, diversity, and inclusion programs. Through the year, the assistant director is responsible for providing leadership within the area of access and diversity initiatives under the guidance and support of the associate director and director of Outreach and Recruitment. Work hours are typically 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, but may require early morning, evening or weekend hours given the role’s direct work with outreach and recruitment programs.
Detailed Job Description
As a member of Undergraduate Admissions, the assistant director for Outreach and Recruitment is a critical member of undergraduate recruitment at The Ohio State University providing leadership through planning, implementation, and evaluation of access, diversity, and inclusion outreach and recruitment initiatives, including but not limited to communication campaigns, on- and off-campus programs, Diversity Ambassadors, data analysis, assessment, program content, presents to various groups (10 – 500+), early outreach initiatives, Buckeye Mentoring and Application Program (BMAP), Buckeye Student Leadership Academy (BSLA), Community Based Organizations’ relationship management, data reports, and other access, diversity, and inclusion initiatives; supports undergraduate admissions counseling efforts, focusing on underrepresented and underserved students; contributes to relationship management for key stakeholders on- and off-campus; oversees the daily supervision of Access, Diversity, and Inclusion team members; reviews, analyzes, and validates data to make recommendations for process and program enhancements through use of data tools; reads applications through the holistic review application process; participates as an active member of Undergraduate Admissions through membership on committees; assists office during events and other times throughout the year; conducts special projects and other duties as assigned; travels to support outreach and recruitment; evening and weekend hours required.
Required: Bachelor’s Level Degree or equivalent educ/exp; 3-5 years of experience in higher education, recruitment, or admissions required. Previous supervisory experience required; strong written and verbal communication skills required
