Position Overview and Environment:
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at The Ohio State University is an exciting place to be. This is an opportunity to strategically impact the future of Ohio State through the recruitment, admission and support of outstanding students. The Outreach and Recruitment team is responsible for recruiting prospective students to The Ohio State University Columbus campus. The assistant director position is an important position on the Outreach and Recruitment team as the individual will provide leadership and support focusing on domestic new first year students on behalf of Undergraduate Admissions.
The assistant director reports to the associate director of Outreach and Recruitment. The individual will be located in the Student Academic Services Building and will work most closely with a team of ten full-time staff members and alongside a broader team of approximately 35. Peak seasons are typically August through May given the cyclical nature of the work supported across Undergraduate Admissions. Through the year, the assistant director is responsible for providing leadership within admissions counseling team under the guidance and support of the associate director and director of Outreach and Recruitment. Work hours are typically 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, but will require early morning, evening or weekend hours at various times during the year given the role’s direct work with outreach and recruitment programs.
As a member of Undergraduate Admissions, the Assistant Director of Outreach and Recruitment is a critical member of undergraduate recruitment at The Ohio State University providing leadership and strategic direction for new first year student outreach and recruitment under the direction of the associate director of Outreach and Recruitment; oversees the daily supervision of campus based admissions counselors; responsible for training, coaching, and evaluation of staff; directs and monitors daily workflows; directs the performance management process, including goal setting, coaching, feedback and managing accountability and productivity; supports the communication and recruitment efforts for all admissions counseling staff; reviews, analyzes, and validates data to make recommendations for process and program enhancements through use of data tools; develops, manages, coordinates, implements, analyzes and evaluates recruitment efforts; manages recruitment territory; assists with territory specific recruitment activities and events; possible travel up to six weeks a year; supports the associate director in the planning, reporting, budgeting, and monitoring of fiscal policies; develops, maintains and strengthens relationships with high school counselors and community based organization advisors; reads applications through our holistic application review process; participates as an active member of Undergraduate Admissions through membership on committees; assists office during events and other times throughout the year; conducts special projects and other duties as assigned; evening and weekend hours required.
Required: Bachelor’s Level Degree or equivalent educ/exp; 3-5 years of experience in higher education, recruitment, or admissions required. Previous supervisory experience required; strong written and verbal communication skills required; experience in managing teams required.
