The Associate Director of Recruitment and Strategic Initiatives is primarily responsible for project management and coordinating resources to ensure the delivery of multichannel state-of-the-art strategic communications campaigns to prospective first-year and transfer students, parents/families, counselors, teachers and alumni that are brand compliant and drive behaviors that lead to the achievement of enrollment and retention goals and position Enrollment Management at Case Western Reserve University as THE preeminent enrollment operation amongst the top 40 national universities and top 40 national liberal arts colleges in the minds of all constituencies. These multichannel campaigns are multi-year, high volume, time sensitive and highly visible locally, nationally and internationally.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.      Research, write and execute multichannel marketing messages aimed at driving behaviors that lead to the achievement of enrollment and retention goals. Maintain brand compliance specific to policies established by University Marketing and Communication and more generally within the spirit of good brand stewardship. Messages include development of print materials and direct mail, web content, email messaging, social media content or other methods. Facilitate the communication between Case Western Reserve University and outside vendors in support of this objective as assigned.

2.      Develop and manage multichannel campaigns to meet the university’s goals of enrolling a cohort each fall and spring, significantly increasing transfer recruitment, application numbers and enrolled students each semester.

3.      Identify and research university initiatives, faculty research and students’ experiences that illustrate compelling reasons for prospective students to apply and enroll at Case Western Reserve University. Establish and maintain relationships with deans, faculty, students, parents, administrators, alumni and other appropriate subjects for development of recruiting materials.

4.      Manage quality control and deployment of all email, direct mail and social media based marketing messages that align with the goals established by Enrollment management leadership. This requires high-level knowledge and understanding of enrollment management and project management technologies/software as well as data, and admissions processes. Responsible for complex queries using various data points and sources available in Slate, the Enrollment Management CRM, in order to identify recipients of specific targeted messages based on the specific message, and in order to achieve intended goals of the specific message. This function requires a clear and distinct understanding of the intended audience and desired outcome of each communication, communication series, and overall communication strategy. The ability to understand and draw from complex databases/ datasets, which include multiple constituencies, to target specific populations is critical. Research, create, and execute queries to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of millions of email messages, direct mail pieces, and text messages delivered annually by the Division of Enrollment Management. Plan, create, and execute queries across highly complex data sets related to Office of Undergraduate Admission, Office of University Financial Aid (undergraduate, graduate and professional), Enrollment Operations, Strategic Marketing and Communications, Pre-Collegiate Summer Programs and the Vice President for Enrollment to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of all direct mail campaigns initiated from the Office of Undergraduate Admission. Responsible for daily review of email campaigns and queries. Regularly evaluate and advise division leadership on opportunities for improved effectiveness of email campaigns based on variables selected, as well as progress toward goals. Monitor the success of campaigns and make recommendations to the Director of Strategic Marketing and Recruitment based on research findings. Provide division leadership with analysis of email deliverability and communication effectiveness including but not limited to open rates, click-through rates, funnel statistics and platform/device metrics as well as make recommendations to improve marketing performance and audience interactions. This requires a level of independent work. Judgement is essential to successfully analyzing data, message content and complex queries.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 6 to 8 years of work experience in professional communications or marketing required.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required; concentration in Marketing, Journalism, English or related field preferred. Master’s degree preferred.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

1.      Proven ability to research, interview, and write and tell stories that engage, inform and inspire.

2.      A proven demonstration of developing, delivering and managing successful marketing and communications campaigns. Project management skills are essential.

3.      Demonstrated knowledge of digital communication mediums including social media, newsletter, website, print, etc. with experience in storytelling and improving brand awareness and recognition.

4.      Ability to write quickly and well with a mastery of a variety of prose styles—including writing for the web.

5.      Sophisticated understanding of enrollment strategies, market, and demographic research.

6.      Strong understanding of the use of technology in recruitment required.

7.      Outstanding interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills, including tact and diplomacy.

8.      Effective utilization of organizational, planning and analytical skills, including working on multiple projects.

9.      Knowledge of recruitment strategies, including prospective student management, marketing, and targeted recruitment efforts.

10.  Sensitivity to economic, cultural, and other differences relating to the challenges of enrolling a diverse student body.

11.  Proven ability to work in high stress, accountable, deadline-driven environment required.

12.  Working knowledge of print, electronic and social media production required.

13.  Working knowledge of website development and maintenance, database management, statistical data interpretation and application of state of the art information technology as applied to recruitment programs.

14.  Strong collaboration skills and ability to work in a team environment.

15.  Ability to meet consistent attendance.

16.  Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face.
