Position Title: Admissions and Recruitment Specialist
The Admissions and Recruitment Specialist is responsible for building and maintaining positive relationships with prospects and applicants through active recruiting, financial aid counseling, and yield efforts. The specialist will work closely on the development and execution of a recruitment plan that brings qualified and diverse applicants to the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences (Mandel School) Master of Science in Social Administration (MSSA; equivalent to an MSW) and Master of Nonprofit Organizations (MNO) degree programs. Duties include, but are not limited to: admission counseling, national student recruitment, conducting information sessions for prospective students, application processing, application review, data analysis, developing and maintaining positive relationships with constituents (e.g. faculty, staff, alumni, students, and recruitment contacts), and meeting recruitment objectives. The specialist will work with all Mandel School programs on campus and online.
- Seek top applicants using a multi-channel approach that includes meeting and recruiting students in a variety of venues (e.g. college and career fairs, campus/classroom visits, and conferences) promoting the school’s graduate programs in Social Work and Nonprofit Management. Develop relationships with peer school counterparts and assist in outreach efforts to build campus, community, and partnership relationships. Function as an official university representative both on and off campus. Present information about the school program to individuals and groups in a professional and informative manner. Participate in recruitment events that require travel. (30%)
- Develop and implement effective communication strategies to keep inquiries and prospects engaged. Create effective messaging to drive event attendance and applications to the program. Design and implement communication plan for admitted and deposited students that include targeted emails, direct mail, text and phone campaigns. Develop and analyze reports to evaluate the effectiveness of recruitment and admission activities for MSSA and MNO programs. (20%)
- Serve as a member of the Admissions Review Committee. Review and recommend applications for admission and scholarship recommendations. Conduct international application admission interviews and provide assessment of application. Analyze transcripts for program prerequisites and advance standing eligible credits. (20%)
- Organize and conduct on-campus and off-campus events such as Open Houses, Information Sessions, Admitted and Prospective Student Meet and Greets, and Welcome Wednesday events. Manage ambassador program. (15%)
- Maintain detailed knowledge of the Master of Science in Social Administration (MSSA; equivalent to an MSW) and Master of Nonprofit Organizations (MNO) programs. Interpret and communicate admissions policies and procedures to prospective students in individual appointments and group meetings, via email and phone to ensure continued interest. (5%)
- Work with the application processor to process applications during peak processing times. This may include document tracking, transcript review, prospective student correspondence, and reporting. (5%)
Perform other duties as assigned.
Department/School: Contact with the dean, Associate Dean Academic Affairs, Assistant Dean Students Services and Academic Affairs, Director of Recruitment and Enrollment, Director of International Affairs, directors of centers and management units, faculty, Director of Field Education, Director of Communications, admissions counselors/recruiters and staff on a regular basis to answer questions and provide information.
University: Contact with university recruiters, International Student Services, faculty and administrative contacts on a regular basis to answer questions, exchange information and discuss issues.
External: Contact with administrative and faculty contacts at undergraduate institutions, social service/human service agencies, alumni and university recruiters/admission counselors for undergraduates to develop ongoing relationships and attend career fairs.
Students: Contact with prospective and currently enrolled students on a daily basis. Contact with Mandel Council student leaders frequently. Contact with undergraduate organizations on a regular basis.
No supervisory responsibility.
Experience: 1 or more years’ experience in a higher education, customer service, sales, social work, or nonprofit organizations. Experience working with student and enrollment management technologies, such as PeopleSoft, Apply Yourself, and EMT Connect preferred.
Education/Licensing: Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Strong engagement and customer service skills and training experience.
- Willingness to learn about social work concepts and demonstrate commitment to the profession of social work to fuel genuine dialogue with faculty, practitioners and college students about the field of social work and the school.
- Demonstrated evidence of excellent planning, management of multiple projects, communication and interpersonal skills and experience.
- Ability to formulate and translate the big picture of concepts into practical strategies and action items.
- Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.
- Proficient coaching skills for managing the admissions process and communicating with the applicants.
- Proven ability to research and analyze competitive data and develop strategic responses.
- Independent judgement, excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Knowledge and ability to negotiate with vendors for services, and products.
- High attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills, thoroughness and flexibility.
- Proficiency with computers and related software to support management information and monitoring needs, email, internet functions, social networking.
- Willingness to learn how to use enrollment management and student information technologies.
Will be working in a professional office environment in the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences. Will be required to travel on average up to 10 consecutive weeks between September and November. Additional travel between 1-5 weeks throughout the year may be required. Must be able to work weekends and evenings.
