The Assistant Director of Admissions assists the Office of Admissions in its effort to attract and build relationships with potential students through a variety of related responsibilities. Several of the chief tasks include creating travel schedules, traveling to high schools and college fairs in the assigned travel area, corresponding with and interviewing prospective students, tracking application materials, coordinating and planning special visit days which consists of ensuring faculty coverage; securing room reservations; setting the final schedule; and assigning staff duties, maintaining various professional networking relationships and performing general office duties.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and plan special visit days, such as open houses, visitation days, and multicultural visit days
  • Ensure faculty coverage, secure room reservations, set the final schedule and assign staff duties for special visit days
  • Attend all recruitment events, such as open houses, visitation days, multicultural visit days and student receptions
  • Create and implement small regional events for prospective students and families within specified locations
  • Interview and correspond with prospective students and their families in person and via phone, mail, email, virtually and social networking
  • Build strong relationships with prospective students and high school counselors concerning details about ONU
  • Educate, counsel and guide prospective students in their college search process
  • Utilize reports and past ONU travel history to coordinate a travel schedule including high school visits and college fairs in the designated area
  • Encourage prospective students and families to visit and apply to ONU
  • Track applications and application materials needed for prospective student admission in the assigned travel area
  • Read files to determine the quality of prospective students, their fit for ONU, and their preparedness for various programs and majors and make decision for acceptance/denial to the University
  • Communicate and update faculty, staff, deans, department chairs, and coaches about interested and qualified prospective students regularly
  • Act as liaison with assigned academic units to encourage faculty participation in recruiting
  • Oversee substantial projects impacting the long range future of the University
  • Offer ideas on new and creative recruitment initiatives
  • Regularly communicate with persons of importance, obtain the cooperation of others, and handle delicate relationships and complex situations
  • Perform a variety of general office duties including filing paperwork, organizing folders, attending meetings, serving on various committees and working on office projects
  • Complete special projects as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills:  

  • Excellent organization, communication and professionalism
  • Advanced knowledge of professional theories and practices within the given field and a working knowledge of related fields
  • Ability to solve problems through the identification and analysis of diverse issues
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and ever changing environment
  • Must be willing to travel and work outside standard business hours including evenings and weekends

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Three to five years of similar work experience
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Master’s Degree
  • Previous work experience as an Admissions Counselor
  • Knowledge of Ellucian Banner product
  • Knowledge of Slate by Technolutions product
