ABOUT UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS
Undergraduate Admissions supports outreach and recruitment strategy, admission policy and processes, and yield initiatives for domestic and international first-year, transfer, adult and non-degree students enrolling on the Athens campus and in OHIO Online programs. The Undergraduate Admissions team is comprised of more than 50 full-time staff members, including a talented recruitment team based in Athens, as well as a growing team of strategically positioned staff members in key markets throughout the U.S. and around the world. Undergraduate Admissions supports colleges, schools, and departments in the pursuit of academically specific recruitment and admission goals.
LEADERSHIP PROFILE & POSITION SUMMARY
Position Summary: The associate director for access and diversity plays an instrumental role in expanding the diversity of the student body at Ohio University which enhances the overall educational experience for all OHIO students. This position will provide leadership over the strategic and tactical efforts to enroll academically talented and diverse students for Ohio University’s undergraduate programs. Serving as a subject matter expert on recruitment, admission, and yield efforts for diverse populations, the associate director serves as a liaison to and collaborates with colleagues within Undergraduate Admissions as well as variety of partners on- and off-campus such as the Division of Diversity and Inclusion, academic units, and community-based organizations. This position manages professional staff members and provides oversight for associated student organizations in Undergraduate Admissions. As an active member of the Undergraduate Admissions recruitment team, the associate director manages a territory and participates in admission review processes. The associate director will report to the assistant vice president for enrollment management and executive director of undergraduate admissions and serves as a member of the Undergraduate Admissions leadership team.

Through their work in this role, the associate director will play a critical role in OHIO’s commitment to reducing barriers to education, supporting diverse students, and building a sense of belonging for all.
Diversity Initiatives: The associate director for access and diversity utilizes a data informed approach to lead the development and implementation of strategic and tactical plans for the recruitment, admission and yield of students from diverse backgrounds including but not limited to students from underrepresented, first generation, low income, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds. In coordination with the recruitment and outreach leadership team, this position directs on- and off-campus recruiting and yield efforts as well as college access and pipeline initiatives for middle and high school students.
Collaboration with University Partners: OHIO is committed to collaborative success throughout the University and with our partners off-campus. Therefore, the associate director builds collaborative partnerships with academic and administrative offices on-campus as well as alumni, school districts, Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), and external multicultural constituency groups to recruit and enroll students from diverse backgrounds. This position serves as a liaison for the office to ensure alignment of efforts between Undergraduate Admissions and the Division of Diversity and Inclusion, the Office for Multicultural Success and Retention, academic and administrative units, and regional campuses and centers, for diversity related initiatives. The associate director also identifies and engages in strategic partnership opportunities with CBOs within OHIO’s primary and secondary recruiting markets.
Management, Supervision and Training. The associate director serves as a member of the Undergraduate Admissions management team and recruits, selects, trains, manages and supervises the work of admissions professionals and student employees directly and indirectly as needed for diversity initiatives and associated programming in alignment with other recruitment activities. This positions develops and leads a series of trainings that educate Undergraduate Admissions and University partners around best practices related to the recruitment and yield of diverse students populations. This position also provides direction and oversight to student organizations associated with enrollment initiatives.
Territory Management: The associate director manages activities occurring within an assigned territory or affecting constituents within it. This position conducts recruitment travel within an assigned territory in an independent and professional manner and initiates, develops, and maintains relationships with constituents within the territory, including prospective students and their families, secondary and postsecondary personnel, community-based organizations, and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process. Such recruitment work includes the planning and execution of on- and off-campus events to support recruitment, admission, and yield, not only for the assigned territory but also for broader audiences.
Counseling and Advising on Admissions and Enrollment Processes: Following a thorough onboarding process, the associate director maintains a thorough knowledge of trends in the field of admissions, and advises constituents on the breadth and depth of opportunities available at OHIO. This in-person and virtual advising occurs through information sessions, individual appointments, phone calls, e-mails, online chats, and interactions within the University’s constituent relationship management system.
Evaluation of Admissions Materials: The associate director conducts a thorough, holistic, selective review of applicants’ candidacy, determine necessary documentation to support an admission decision, and recommend appropriate alternative pathways when admission cannot be offered. The associate director is a key member on the Committee Review Panel, representing and deliberating concerns about applicants’ candidacy. Other duties as assigned.
