Reporting to the Associate Director, the Financial Aid Counselor plays a critical role in responding to service needs on a daily basis. This position supports students in decisions about financing their educational expenses and ultimately their academic success. Responsibilities include educating students and families about the financial aid process, reviewing FAFSA applications, determining and adjusting all types of financial assistance, providing education regarding loans and various financing options as well as exercising professional judgment. This individual is expected to use problem-solving skills on a daily basis. Additionally, this individual will work collaboratively within Flyer Student Services to proactively update student financial aid records.
At least 1 year of experience providing service in a professional, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
The ability to work with multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong written communication skills and attention to detail
The successful candidate must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration
Master’s Degree in Higher Education or Business is preferred
Enrollment Management or Higher Education experience at a private University
Strong customer-oriented approach and the demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with families and students of diverse backgrounds
Strong oral communication skills
Demonstrated use of analytical skills to assess and evaluate student scenarios in order to provide appropriate education and counseling
Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with a variety of constituents and evidence of strong interpersonal skills
Knowledge of Title IV Programs and federal financial aid regulations
Knowledge and experience with Ellucian Banner software and Salesforce CRM environments
Ability to work with staff, students and families in a manner consistent with Catholic and Marianist values and principles
